Broadway F.C 2 - 0 Aldermere F.C - Broad-Mere Cup 2009
On Tuesday night the ‘Broad-Mere Cup’ was born, an Annual event which is played out between Broadway Brook F.C & Aldermere F.C. The game was played at Valley Road the home of Flixton F.C.
Aldermere started in the driving seat, taking the game to Broadway, having most of the possession but not creating chances, it was a heated affair and midway through the 1st half in what seemed a 50/50 challenge, the ref took a disliking to something and therefore sent Kyle Denton off, due to the friendly nature of the game Kyle was only sin binned till the 2nd half and the ref allowed a sub to come on in his place. As Ken Ramsbottom enters the fray and the match approaching the 40minute mark Jonathan Moran picks the ball up on the right hand side, he plays a nice ball down the right channel to Gary Rowbotham who plays Moran back in as he followed his pass. Moran puts in a perfect cross as Ramsbottom darts across his maker and with a bullet header gives the Aldermere keeper no chance.
Half Time Broadway Brook F.C 1 – 0 Aldermere F.C
Broadway make a couple of changes for the 2nd half, Dave Hewitt coming on at right back and Richard Whitfield making his debut coming on upfront.
As the 2nd half starts it is a completely different Broadway performance to the 1st half, passing the ball around nicely and working hard for each other, with Andy Macintosh in inspired form on the left hand side starting many of the attacks. After 55 minutes with the Aldermere defence stretched, debutant Richard Whitfield peels wide after receiving a pass from Elliott Speight and from a tight angle sends in a rasping volley which the Aldermere keeper deals with.
More Broadway subs, Denton comes back on at right midfield and makes an immediate impact as he goes on a mazy run and plays a through ball to Rowbotham who fires in only for the Aldermere keeper to make a good save as his near post.
Corner, Speight to take it......he fires in an excellent cross, Whitfield.......loses his marker and leaps like a salmon.....his bullet header finds the top corner! Goal on his debut, 2-0 to Broadway.
From then on the match stayed the same. Broadway bossing for the remainder of the game, which turned out to be a comfortable victory in the end after a shaky start.
Man of the Match was awarded to Andy Macintosh.
