Broadway Brook F.C 5 - 4 Navigation Bay

Broadway Brook looking to bounce back from the 6-4 defeat to Trafford Hawks, welcomed Navigation Bay to Woodsend.

Team line up.

Antony Platt in goal, a back 4 of Jon Leaney left back, Darren Langford right back, Steven Dimitch and Jonathan Eckersley centre backs.

Dan Mitchell left mid, Kyle Denton right mid with John Gilmartin and Elliott Speight in the centre.

Richard Whitfield and Gary Rowbotham upfront.

Broadway started off very well and commanded the 1st half from the 1st whistle.

The back 4 looking very comfortable, leaving Platt in goal with very little to do.

Broadway took the lead through Whitfield as Gilmartin flies into a challenge as the ball ricochets through to Whitfield as he strikes hard towards goal and finds its way through the keeper and in to the back of the net. 1-0

Shortly after Broadway found themselves 2-0 up. As Platt fires the ball down field, the bounce of the ball deceives the Navigation Bay defence as Rowbotham hits an early volley; the keeper gets a hand to it but is unable to keep it out. 2-0

With Broadway still dominating the game, Denton jinks his way into the box and his hacked down, the ref points to the spot. Denton steps up and fires into the bottom right hand corner. Perfect pen. 3-0

Half time whistle goes 3-0 and cruising.

Broadway are warned about complacency as the 2nd half starts, as the inevitable happens as Jon Leaney and Antony Platt play a 1-2 under pressure. The clearance falls to a Navigation player who fires the ball into an empty net. 3-1

3-1 soon became 3-2 as a Navigation freekick is floated towards the back post. Leaving a player unmarked with the simplest of headers.

Navigation get a corner, which Broadway clear, after an off the ball altercation in the box, the ref points to the spot and gives Jonathan Eckersley his marching orders, Broadway down to 10 men.

Broadway sub, Richard Whitfield is replaced by Sam Jarvis.

The penalty is dispatched despite Antony Platt’s efforts to keep it out. 3-3 and an uphill task for Broadway Brook.

10 men soon became 9, as the Navigation centre back pulls at Denton’s shirt, in frustration he kicks out and the ref has no alternative to give the red card. The game just got a little bit harder.

It’s a Broadway corner, Rowbotham whips it in and there’s Dan Mitchell who meets it with a bullet header. 4-3

With Broadway only having 9 men, a Navigation player finds himself in lots of space midway in the Broadway half; he loops an effort towards goal, as Platt loses the flight of the ball. 4-4

As Broadway players fatigued sets in, Character is shown to bounce back yet again, as Speight plays a through ball to Rowbotham to run onto, who rides a challenge before firing at the keeper, the ball falls back at Rowbotham’s feet, he then rounds the keeper and finishes to make it 5-4.

Broadway subs late on. Dan Mitchell who ran himself into the ground is replaced by James Ginder.

Final whistle goes as Broadway manages to pull off an excellent result despite being down to 9 men for the last 30mins.

Man of the match goes to Dan Mitchell, who never stopped running and was a constant threat to Navigation Bay.
