Broadway Brook F.C 4 - 0 Pelican F.C
On a bright Sunday morning, Broadway Brook played there 1st league game at their new home Woodsend against Pelican. After last week’s victory over Prem Champs Old Alts, we knew this match couldn’t be taken lightly.
Team line up. Antony Platt in goal, an unchanged back 4 of John Leaney right back, Andy McIntosh left back, Steven Dimitch and Jonathan Eckersley centre backs.
A midfield 5 with Lee Hamblett making his league debut as the holding midfielder, Elliott Speight and John GIlmartin in the centre with James Ginder on the left and another debutant Chris Rooney on the right.
Leaving Gary Rowbotham the lone striker.
From the 1st whistle, Broadway pressed well. Showing the same work ethic as last week, limiting Pelican to very few chances.
Broadway’s breakthrough came 20 minutes in as Rowbotham capitalises on a loose touch from the Pelican defender, he releases James Ginder on the left and from 20 yards out fires in a great shot in off the near post. A fine strike 1-0.
In a game with very few chances, Broadway soon doubled their lead as Elliott Speight wins the ball in the centre of midfield and spots Rowbotham down the left channel, Rowbotham races to the byline and finds James Ginder unmarked at the back post to fire high into the net. 2-0, 2 for James Ginder.
An excellent 1st half is brought to a close 2-0 with Antony Platt looking very bored in the Broadway goal thanks to the excellent defending from the men in front of him.
The 2nd half was more of the same, Broadway dominating defensively, with Lee Hamblett protecting the back four with considerable ease, allowing John Gilmartin and Elliott Speight to boss the midfield.
Broadway changes.
Ken Ramsbottom comes on for James Ginder who was excellent today. Rowbotham switches to left midfield, Darren Langford comes on for Chris Rooney and James Hayes comes on for Jonathan Eckersley who was a rock at the back.
Broadway get a throw on the left hand side, Andy McIntosh finds the head of John Gilmartin, who flicks it to Ken Ramsbottom, Ken then flicks the ball on to the on rushing Lee Hamblett who steals in, in front of the Pelican keeper, knocks it around him and fires in. Good goal on a great debut for Lee Hamblett. 3-0
The game was sealed when Rowbotham was felled in the box; he picks himself up to fire into the bottom left hand corner. 4-0 The least Broadway deserved.
Broadway could of made it 5 as Steven Dimitch nearly found the corner from a bullet header but his effort just went wide. Final score, 4-0. Another great performance.
Man of the match again was awarded to James Ginder for his excellent finishing and awesome work rate.
