Broadway F.C 9 - 1 Topspinners F.C
Wednesday night Broadway Brook F.C played out the much anticipated match against Topspinners F.C the new home of former player Johnny Moran, a game Broadway couldn’t afford to lose.
Broadway started off on the front foot and were pretty much comfortable for the entire match, with Gilly and Elliott in the centre of midfield bossing proceedings. It was Gilly that opened the scoring after firing a shot into the corner. Then a succession of free kicks saw Rowbotham go close and Whitfield hit the underside of the bar. Next it was Elliott’s turn to get in on the act as he fires in a fierce shot in off the post. Then soon after Tony Dolan picks up the ball deep in the Topspinners half and shoots from distance which nestles in the top corner.
Topspinners did pull a goal back which turned out to be nothing more than a conciliation after a mix up in the Broadway defence allowed there striker to pounce and poke the ball into the net.
Broadway created more chances with Andy Macintosh in inspired form on the left forcing the Topspinners keeper into making an outstanding save before later rattling the post with a powerful drive.
Half Time Broadway Brook F.C 3-1 Topspinners F.C
Broadway make a few changes, Jimmy Hayes is replaced by Darren Langford, Jon Leaney is replaced by Dave Hewitt.
Not a lot changed after half time as Broadway stepped up a gear and put Topspinners under immense pressure. Wave after wave of Broadway attacks finally pay off as Elliott Speight pops up on the edge of the box to fire an unstoppable shot into the right hand corner for his 2nd of the game.
Soon after that Broadway made it 5-1, Steven Dimitch playing the ball over the top of the Topspinners defence for Rowbotham to pounce, rounding the keeper and finishing with ease.
As Broadway take complete control, Topspinners effectively lose control with 1 of their players headbutting Elliott Speight which causes a little fracas. Topspinners are reduced to 10 men and quite rightly so.
It wasn’t long before Broadway make it 6-1, Richard Whitfield showing a good turn of pace and scooped his effort over the keeper the ball lands in the top corner taking his tally to 13 goals in pre-season.
Next attack the next Broadway goal arrives, with excellent work on the left by Andy Macintosh, cutting inside and laying the ball off to Gilly who gets his head over the ball and smashes it in the roof of the net. 7-1 and another awesome performance from Gilly.
Then the match ball belongs to Elliott Speight after collecting his 1st hattrick for Broadway, the tenacious midfielder popping up late in the area to fire across the keeper off the inside of the far post. Well deserved for Captain Marvel.
With a couple of minutes left on the clock James Ginder chips in with Broadway’s 9th and final goal of the game.
Another excellent victory for Broadway, with room for improvement, it’s very exciting times at Broadway Brook F.C.
